We are pleased to announce that the registration for the IAAC Global Summer School Beirut 2019 is now OPEN
Organized by the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona, the IAAC GSS is a full-time two-week course that is defined by ambitious, multi-scalar investigation on the implications of emergent techniques in our planned environments. Each year, international teams located in key cities around the globe explore a common agenda with projects that are deeply embedded in diverse local conditions. GSS2019 will follow the theme of Becoming and will happen simultaneously in many cities around the world, some of which are Barcelona, New York, Moscow, Tehran, Beirut and others
Being an active member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), representing and leading the UN SDG 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure), BAU is committed to achieve the UN agenda 2030. Accordingly, and building on the faculty’s ongoing research in parametric design and digital fabrication, this year IAAC GSS Beirut 2019 aims to promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and technologies with the topic of advanced robotic fabrication strategies
IAAC Global Summer School is a full-time two-week course that provides practical and theoretical knowledge to its participants. The program is led by expert tutors, combined with lectures by renowned professionals and academics relevant to the topics to be treated during the course. These will be broadcast in the different node-cities, all globally connected. Participants will join a global agenda and an international laboratory at their disposal to test their design hypothesis, understanding how design conclusions derived locally can be tested and evolved globally in the different cities where other teams reside. Experiments using recycled plastics, construction waste, and wood fly ash are among the many byproduct materials to be tested and utilized. The resulting 1:1 architectural interventions will promote for environmentally conscious building approaches that utilize waste materials as a resource rather than a burden on the city’s infrastructure
The IAAC GSS Beirut 2019 participants will be introduced to the fundamental logics of parametric modelling and algorithmic design (Grasshopper and plugins) as well as analysis, performance testing and simulation for machinic operation and digital fabrication (Kuka Prc). Optimizing subtractive robotic manufacturing, exploring the possibilities of building with flexible molds, and material innovations will be tackled during the course.
For participation, the workshop fees are 750 euros for general applicants.
BAU can help in offering accommodation in Cesar Park Hotel, Hamra, Beirut with a special rate of 315$ for the 14 nights bed and breakfast. For transportation, BAU will offer free daily shuttling throughout the course period
All students will receive a Global summer school certificate issued by IAAC
Attached is the poster for the program. We encourage students and young professionals from Lebanon and abroad to participate in this exciting program
